What needs cleaning?

What drone cleaning actually is

A drone carries a hose line up to the surface and sprays water or cleaning solution where a ladder, lift or rope crew would otherwise have to go. It is a soft-wash style method. The drone applies the solution, the solution does the work on the dirt and organic growth, and then the surface is rinsed.

It is not a high-pressure blast from the air. The drone cannot scrub, it cannot pick at a single stubborn stain, and it does not replace detail work at ground level. On most jobs it handles the upper areas while the lower walls, entries and flatwork are cleaned the usual way.

Surfaces where it makes sense

Drone cleaning fits surfaces that are large, high and awkward to reach: upper stucco and painted walls on tall homes, multi-story facades, glass and metal cladding, roof areas you would rather nobody walk on, and the high walls of warehouses and industrial buildings.

It is most useful when the alternative is setting up a lift in a tight space, closing a sidewalk, or putting a crew on ropes for a wash that is mostly about removing dust film, runoff streaks and light organic growth.

When it is the wrong tool

Some jobs should not be done with a drone. Heavy buildup that needs agitation, oil and rust stains, graffiti, deep cleaning on concrete, and anything that needs close inspection while it is being cleaned are better handled by hand or with ground equipment.

The site matters too. Wind, overhead lines, trees, nearby people and traffic, and the local rules for where a drone may fly can all rule it out. If a building cannot be flown safely, we will tell you and suggest the access method that fits.

How a drone cleaning job runs

First we look at the building, from photos or on site: height, surfaces, what is on them, where water will go and where the drone can and cannot fly. That assessment decides whether a drone is used at all.

On the day, the area below the work is kept clear, plants and openings that need protecting are covered or pre-wet, and the solution is matched to the surface. The drone works section by section, the surface is given time for the solution to act, and then everything is rinsed. Lower areas, entries and walkways are cleaned and rinsed last so runoff from above does not land on clean work.

Drone, lift, rope or ground?

Each access method has a place. Ground equipment with extension wands covers most one- and two-story homes. Lifts give a crew hands-on reach for detail work and heavy stains. Rope access reaches tall facades where nothing can be parked below. A drone covers big upper surfaces quickly without putting people at height.

Plenty of buildings end up with a mix: a drone for the upper facade and ground crews for the bottom floor and flatwork. Our article on drone cleaning versus rope access for LA buildings walks through that choice in more detail.

What affects the cost

We do not publish a fixed price for drone cleaning because the job changes from building to building. The things that move a quote are the height and total area of the surfaces, the surface materials, how dirty they are, how much of the site can be flown, water access, how runoff has to be handled, and how much ground-level work is added to the same visit.

Our pressure washing cost guide explains these factors for every service, and a quote request is the quickest way to get a number for your building.

What to send with a drone quote request

Photos of every side you want cleaned help most, including one from far enough back to show the full height. Add the address or ZIP code, the number of stories, the main surfaces (stucco, paint, glass, metal, roof tile), what you are trying to remove, and anything about access: tenants, parking, shared walls, trees or nearby power lines.

If you are not sure whether your building is a good fit, send what you have. We will tell you whether a drone, a lift, a rope crew or ground equipment is the better way to clean it.

Questions

Drone cleaning FAQ

What is drone cleaning?

Drone cleaning uses a drone to apply water or cleaning solution to surfaces that are hard to reach from the ground, such as upper facades and roofs.

Is drone cleaning right for my building?

Suitability depends on the building, surfaces and site conditions. We'll discuss whether drone cleaning or another access method fits your project.

Can a drone clean windows and glass?

It can wash glass and metal on upper facades as part of a building wash. Spotless detail work on glass is usually finished by hand.

Does drone cleaning replace ground-level cleaning?

No. Lower walls, entries, walkways and stains are still cleaned from the ground, usually in the same visit.

What if my building can't be flown?

Then we use another access method, such as ground equipment, a lift or rope access, and explain why during the assessment.
